The proper thing to do when your spouse leaves for another person? Have no direct contact with the spouse at all. All communication has to be using a third party. The wayward spouse gets the message RIGHT AWAY that you did not cave in, you cannot be manipulated, and you’re stronger than he thought. THEN he will start to feel shame and guilt. I have a friend for whom this process took only one week. Others may take longer. But the wayward spouses are forced out of their “psychotic bubbles” and they see life as it really is.
