I almost turned you off as you spoke so strongly against the Obama politics–or the liberal agenda. But you redeemed yourself when you restated the importance of parents teaching the children, putting the responsibility back in the family and individuals. If you really listen to what is being said with the democratic party it is all about taking personal responsibility for your actions and making decisions that are the best for you and your family. Do I agree with everyone’s decisions? Hell no. But I respect the right to make those decisions. Hopefully we will grow as a society to make better decisions–not be led like sheep. And I do believe the scriptures and our faith will lead us into the future.
Thanks, Cathy
Believe me, Mark is OK with your POV, because he doesn’t expect you to “get it”, and he doesn’t expect your loyal listenership However, he’s got great relationship material … stuff we all could use to save our marriages and families … so it might be good to do as you’ve done, swallow your pride and politics, and listen in.
Now, I think I finally DO “get it”. If you’re not interested, don’t finish reading this post.
You mention three important concepts: personal responsibility for decisions, the “scriptures”, and faith.
The *Scriptures* lead us to find the truth … that God, one God only, created everything … some people think it must have been like a “big bang”, and that He created mankind … and then we made a decision … a terrible one. The Scriptures then lead us to find *The Truth* — that is, that God Himself paid a terrible price (as the man, Jesus) to save mankind from the terrible consequences associated with our terrible decision.
You do have a personal responsibility in regard to this truth. You are correct, you have the right make a decision—to choose to accept it, or not.
Now, there are some semantic issues in your thinking. There are no “scriptures” worthy of acceptance as truth, there is only Scripture that tells about the Truth. There is no hope, no “hopefully”, but there is one and only one Hope. And there is one source of Truth … the same source that created it all to begin with.
In the future, a “time” will come (outside of time, actually), when we’ll be tested as to whether we’ve learned about the Truth. If we’re not careful now, we will fail that test when it comes.
I’m sorry if this offends anyone, but it is truth. There is a tiny bit of faith involved, but there is more evidence for these truths than there is for a lot of what we call “conventional wisdom”, and there is real science (not of the Kent Hovind/et al type) that indicates to me that the science we’ve been taught in the last few decades was a little too forceful in its pronouncements against these truths.
As for Obama’s politics, he denies some truths that the source of Truth, God Himself, holds dear. That’s where Mark’s issues with him come from, and mine, too. I pray for the President, but I’ve little hope that things will get better, because it seems his political will and resultant policies are generally bent on defying the laws of Nature — that is to say, Nature’s God. It just won’t work.
